QEMRF Grants Awarded In StyleDate: 1st December 2010Location: Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, AustraliaThe Queensland Emergency Medicine Research Foundation held a Grants Award Ceremony on Tuesday 1 December 2009 to announce the successful grant applicants from rounds 4 and 5. The Director-General of Queensland Health, Mr Mick Reid, was able to join us on the day and congratulate those involved in these exciting research projects. It was very evident from those who spoke on the day that there is certainly passion amongst us to continue incorporating research into our Departments and to reinforce to Queensland Health the value of the QEMRF in our profession. The ceremony included an update on the progress of some projects awarded in earlier grant rounds and it was wonderful to hear that some of the research has already produced results that will be incorporated into future practises in Emergency Departments. It highlighted that QEMRF Research Projects have the ability to generate effective results in a relatively short period of time that will have considerable impact on patient outcomes and improve efficiencies in resource allocation. Video conference links with Mt Isa and Townsville contributed to reinforcing that QEMRF is for State-wide research projects. Grant rounds 4 and 5 have involved projects spread across 12 Queensland hospitals through 15 Departments and collaborations have included 8 Universities as well as many other organisations involved in emergency situations such as the Royal Flying Doctors Service, Australian Red Cross Blood Service, Queensland Ambulance Service and Careflight.
