Emergency Medicine will not receive complete recognition until research has become a major role in the College’s future, which today has its birth. Congratulations.”  Dr Noel Stephenson, at the official launch of the Queensland Emergency Medicine Research Foundation.

In practical terms, while the foundation can supply funding to employ research staff, it will require vision, commitment and support from Directors of Emergency Medicine and Senior Staff for this next phase to be fully realised.  Dr Frank Garlick concluded his speech at the official launch with an inspiring quote by Celia Green, “The way to research is to attack the facts at the point of greatest astonishment”

The recently formed Queensland Emergency Medicine Research Foundation (QEMRF) Ltd is a public company and registered charity which supports research directed at improving the care of patients in Emergency Departments.  The Foundation also aims to develop emergency medicine research capacity in Queensland.  Principal Investigators must be owkring in a Queensland Health or Mater Public Hospital Emergency Department to be eligible for funding, however we encourage multi-disciplinary local, national and international collaboration.
