Apply for a Grant

Eligibility:

Applicants are encouraged to register online and get their application ID as soon as possible.

There are strict eligibility requirements for researchers applying for QEMRF funding. Please refer to the Instructions and Guidelines on the portal for further detail.  If you are prompted for a password when you try to access documents, just hit ‘Cancel’.

In brief, researchers can apply for funding as:

Principal Investigators – All Principal Investigators must be salaried specialists in Emergency Medicine working in an Emergency Department and employed by Queensland Health or Mater Health Services and providing public patient care for the duration of the funding and must conduct research aimed at advancing emergency medicine

Co-investigators – Applications may also include co-investigators who are key personnel who have contributed in any way to the development or conduct of the research. Co-investigators may be staff specialists, trainees, senior medical officers, clinical nurses, relevant allied health personnel or other professionals such as mathematicians, epidemiologists, statisticians, lawyers, scientists, health economists etc.

The eligibility status of funded researchers will be reviewed from time-to-time. The award may be terminated if a researcher or supervisor is deemed not to fit the eligibility criteria.

All applications must comply with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.

Originality:

Check that QEMRF has not awarded a grant for the same study in the past (ie you are confirming originality) by checking previous grants awarded.

Instructions and Guidelines:

Log on to the QEMRF Portal and read the instruction guidelines prior to completing the appropriate application form.

Obtain Application ID:

Please obtain an Application ID prior to completing an application form by registering here.

Application Forms

From the portal, open the appropriate application form and save to your computer (remember to save frequently as you complete the form). Note that there are different application forms for the different catgories fo grants.

How do I submit the application?

  • Send application to your Administering Institution for sign off.
  • Lodge completed application with grants@qemrf.org.au as a word document as well as a pdf which includes all signatures.
  • If you are prompted for a password, select cancel and you will still be able to view documents and save them to your computer.

The documents can also be accessed by typing http://portal.qemrf.org.au in your web browser and then selecting Forms and Guidelines from the menu dot points on the left hand column.

Tips for submissions:

  1. View the checklist provided by QEMRF for grant applications.
  2. View these PowerPoint Slides which provide Research Resourse links and information.
  3. Have you asked an important question that is relevant to Emergency Medicine?
  4. If you would like help with methodology either the Research Manager can help or we can provide free access to a Senior Biostatistician or Health Economist by referral.
  5. Do you have someone on your team with a good publication track record?
  6. Have you done a thorough literature review and referenced recent meta- analyses, systematic reviews and the Cochrane Library if applicable?
  7. Have you checked the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform Search Portal for similar research?
  8. Have you checked that the lay summary is 300 words or less and have you tested it out on a lay person?
  9. Does your budget add up?
